Lelome Kahaualoa Rogers, 61, who has no permanent address, was located on Aupuni Street and arrested at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday.
He was being detained at the Hilo police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued their investigation.
In a phone interview Thursday, Detective Joel Field said he couldn’t discuss the case, as it was still ongoing.
At 1:42 p.m. Wednesday, South Hilo Patrol officers responded to a report of a robbery at the bank, where a man reportedly handed an envelope containing a demand note for money to the 20-year-old female teller. The teller told police she placed $500 in cash within a white envelope and handed it to the suspect, who then left the area on foot, according to a police incident report.
